Phantom Island

Another year another Gizz album. I wasn't a fan of their last two records but after hearing the two singles from "Phantom Island" I was fairly excited. It feel like an evolution of their last record Flight b741, which I really did not enjoy, but this one sounds better on all fronts. It's your usual KGATLW, new album new genre to master, and they really pull it off here, I think it could be best described as sounds of the 70s. I love the orchestral parts especially, the vocals sound better than ever and the lyrics are really multiple levels above of what they usually deliver. As much as I love the band one of the biggest criticisms that you can justifiably level at them is that the lyrics are an afterthought which usually boils down to repeating the song name or some phrase over and over and over again to really give the instrumentals and vibes the room to shine. I really don't mind that at all, but it is delightful to see some big improvements on that front. Fantastic album all around, need to give it a couple more listens but hopefully this can cure my Viagr Aboys addictions that has gone on for a month now. Favorite tracks: Deadstick, Aerodynamic, Phantom Island, Grow Wings and Fly
