Waits was the first quote-unquote good musician I ever fully fell in love with, so I am incapable of rating his music. If it’s Waits, I love it, it’s all very binary. With all that said, Rain Dogs is the one I will inescapably start with, once it’s been a couple of months since I sat down to listen to Waits. He has albums I like more, more experimental stuff that’s just phenomenal, but Rain Dogs is a gentle introduction to him overall, and from there I will typically branch into more or less strange directions based on the mood at the time. The titular “Rain Dogs” is fantastic, Jockey full of Bourbon is more interesting, but Tango has till theyre sore I keep close to my heart.
