I feel rather uninspired lately to write long reviews, but I will say this - Booth Tarkington is a wonderful storyteller. A story of a young girl who is just below the status of her peers, struggling to keep up and be accepted now that her family is not at wealthy as the others, and a story of a family trying to reach for something better, well above and beyond their current means. The mother, the father, Alice... just pretty much every character is distinctive and tragic in its own way. And the ending is so very bittersweet. I loved this book.
