I finally got round to the first of 9 books. I hesitated because of that since it'll become just another dark tower where you can't read anything else until all 9 600+ page books are done. Regardless of that, a great science fiction read, epic story from the middle to the end and a great ending. I would say that you could easily stop reading after book 1, or take a break as I intend to do to get to other stuff. Its just that it feels a little slow up to the half way point and then only escalates from there. Chapters are somehow all the same length which was weird.
