Logging this after reading two chapters because I’m hooked. Intellect and intuition are inseparable, he says. But through different periods of history, and still very prevalent today, intellect has been deemed more important that intuition that was never quite as understood and therefore dismissed as something vague and mystical. Stereotypically, intellect is tied to sciences and intuition to art. Here, he explains why that’s bullshit and how, by neglecting one or the other, in ANY field, we are mentally mutilating ourselves (not a quote, edit: he literally ends this chapter with these exact (!!!!) words). He was a psychologist, but also a fan of multidisciplinary approach to his topics. So, while some parts are quite technical, he mostly uses many examples from different disciplines to make his points and explanations. The following chapters are his essays about: abstraction and empathy, language and photography, understanding colour and its relation to music, danger of relativism (and calling everything subjective) and so much more, some of which I partially read before, all with the focus on experiencing art, and I’m so excited about it. If I end up writing notes I can forward them to whoever is interested hehe.
