Shakespeare’s Sonnets are one of those timeless things that prove that, emotionally, we haven’t changed one bit since the beginning of humanity. There’s a sonnet about how, before sleep, he’s imagining his lover and he’s all mmmmm about it, but then it makes him sad because he remembers his lover is with someone else. There’s a bunch of sonnets in which he’s pining so hard for that man, you almost start pitying him. There’s a couple of sonnets about a messy love triangle. Quite a few beautiful sonnets on passage of time, and making love eternal through art and poetry. Some sonnets on jealousy, sex, poetic rivalry, judgmental society, a lot of “idgaf what everyone thinks I fw you”. Some propaganda sonnets about the importance of procreation, possibly commissioned to convince the Queen to marry and have children (she never did). Good stuff.
