If we hadn't started the book club, I wouldn't have discovered this book—and what a shame that would be! I didn't expect to like it as much as I did, but this book has so many wonderful quotes I marked, and the dialogues and characters are wonderfully depicted. It's the typical story of a well-standing family getting run over by modern times, and these themes are similar to *His Family*. George Amberson Minafer is your typical spoiled third-generation old money. At first you hate him, then he grows on you, then by the end you hate him again, and then at the very end you feel sad and sorry for him.
