Aside from an uninspired story and character designs this is one of the best Metroidvanias I've ever played, and I'll never forgive Ubisoft for gutting this franchise reboot after this game 😢 The gameplay starts of seemingly simple, Sargon isn't as responsive as Hornet for example, but you quickly get used to it and can discover one of the better Metroidvania combat systems. It does feel a bit "on rails" as every enemy attack has a correct response: dodge the red attacks, parry the yellow. But as you unlock abilities, most of which I imagined would only be used for traversal, they're all critical in combat as well. As I kept playing I was repeatedly pleasantly surprised how relevant every ability is through the entire game. The puzzles and platofrming challenges are incredible, most required a good amount of brainpower resulting in a great feeling of accomplishment, most non puzzle games have puzzles that can easily be brute forced or figured out withing seconds, but not this one. The bosses are extremely fair and honest, they clearly telegraph their attacks that will require the usage of all the tools you've required up to that point. I don't think I first tried any of the main story bosses, but I didn't really struggle with any of them either, it's a very nice balance the game manages to achieve. I have a bunch more to gush about but I'm getting lazy, if you like Metroidvanias you'll likely love this. If you haven't played a Metroidvania before I think this is a great entry point into the genre. Fantastic game.
