Maybe it's because it's the first time I'm watching an anime movie which is just a continuation of the anime, but this felt weird. The overall plot of the anime barely inches forward but there's a good amount of character development, but some characters are almost completely absent. It's evident that it wasn't written as a movie and because of that the pacing can feel a bit off. The first act is completely different to the rest of the movie but once it gets going it doesn't stop, kind of like revving a chainsaw 🤔 The action was mostly great but even as an avid enjoyed of hyperstylized anime, my favorites being Jojos and Mob Psycho, I found it difficult to follow the action at points. The main villain's ability is a bit boring so there's little room for creativity so it is impressive that it kept me engaged for so long. The emotional hook mostly made me roll my eyes, until the very end where it completely pulled me back in and re conteztualized a good chunk of the movie. Overall it's worth a watch for CSM fans but if you didn't like the anime you won't like this movie. Edit: After letting it marinate a bit longer I'm finding more and more things to like about this. All of the criticisms above still stand but the positives largely outweigh them, bumping it up to a 4. Also, and I can't believe I'm saying this, I watched it in 3D and I'm glad I did!
