Despite Jolie’s Oscar nomination and the buzz surrounding this film when it was first released, I would dare to say that in the last two decades Changeling has largely been forgotten. This is something that I find extremely unfortunate, because upon my most recent rewatch I really feel like it is an exceptionally good film. From Jolie’s powerful performance, the gorgeous period detail and costumes, the compelling true story, Eastwood’s suspenseful direction, and even his minimalist but beautiful musical score - everything is so well done. The high point for me are the performances, every major and minor character is played perfectly - Jason Butler Harner was especially unnerving as Gordon Northcott. Jolie succeeded - and excelled as Christine Collins. She feels so real and portrayed the pain and heartbreak so well. This movie isn’t an easy watch, and there’s obviously some creative license with what happened historically, but I really recommend it to discover (or rediscover, as I did)
