The X-Men face their most formidable and powerful foe when one of their own, Jean Grey, starts to spiral out of control. During a rescue mission in outer space, Jean is nearly killed when she's hit by a mysterious cosmic force. Once she returns home, this force not only makes her infinitely more powerful, but far more unstable. The X-Men must now band together to save her soul and battle aliens that want to use Grey's new abilities to rule the galaxy.
The first act is rather interesting. This would have been a more interesting film, if it had just focused on Charles Xavier being a manipulating villain. They have a lot of references to Charles being a bit of a bastard in the first act, but never really follows up on it after the second act. He would have been a great villain, and it would have been a great ending to the Fox X-men universe. This movie would have been better if they had stayed away from the Phoenix Saga all together. It doesn't give anything interesting to the story. The movie is marred by people just being there for their paycheck, I'm looking at you Jennifer Lawrence. It's not an awful movie. It's just a very forgettable movie.
