(Some bias involved as a longtime fan of the series) Can only speak as someone who’s been watching Downton Abbey for the last 15 years (not sure who’d choose this film as their introduction to Downton, anyway), but I’ve still never defended some of the poorer choices that were made as the story progressed. That being said, I was surprised at how good The Grand Finale was. The loose ends from the last two films were tied up beautifully, fan service was given, as was the customary dry whit and humour we all love. This movie felt like a warm hug from an old friend, and I’m glad that after some stumbling through the years that Downton Abbey was able to end on a strong note.
