The story of the miraculous evacuation of Allied soldiers from Belgium, Britain, Canada and France, who were cut off and surrounded by the German army from the beaches and harbour of Dunkirk between May 26th and June 4th 1940 during World War II.

A great war epic, that leaves you breathless, because of the endless suspense that grips the movie from start to end. Its Nolan's best movie since The Prestige. The movie intensity works amazingly with the score that supports the ever pressing deadline, that drives the story forward. The movie has three storylines The Beach (one week), The Boat (one day) and The Air (one hour). The Boat is the most moving and interesting of the three, and Mark Rylance Is fantastic as Mr. Dawson the captain of the Moonstone, and gives the story a lot of gravitas. The Air story makes me yearn for a movie about The Battle of Britain. Its some of the most intense Air fight scenes I have ever seen. My biggest problem is the The Beach Storyline. It misses an interesting protagonist you can root for. If instead following our lead instead followed a regiment of soldiers. F.x. the Highland regiment, you would have gained a storyline where the loss of comrades with weight more heavily on the viewer.
