Hmmm the cat is cute and all but it was a bit boring pls don’t hate me
A simple story told in a stunning way. The nonchalant world building and the surreal combination of animals and their interactions elevates the movie to a higher level. I'm incredibly biased since I love cats so take what I say with a grain of salt. It's visually distinct and stunning, it does show it's rough around the edges occasionally but this only increases the charm. I particularly love how the animals behave like animals, they have some degree of humanity, or at least intelligence, but they're not completely humanized, they still act on instinct, and the fact that there's absolutely no dialogue helps to drive this unusual directorial choice to a point where it's one of the main selling points. Not much happens, and that's OK. There's just enough room for character growth and the environmental storytelling has just enough trust in it's viewer to allow them to connect the dots on their own, which is so refreshing for an animated movie. The score is phenomenal, and in a movie without dialogue one might be tempted to take center stage with extravagant and manipulative compositions, but instead it remains an important part of the entire movie while working cohesively with other audio-visual elements. Flow doesn't overstay its welcome and ends on a beautiful note without having to rely on cheap tricks to get the tears running (looking at you "The Wild Robot", although I loved that movie as well).
