Is difficult to review "classics" but I ultimately did not enjoy this film. The tension building was good, there's interesting blocking and directing choices and the music rules. Other than that I found it mostly boring. I understand that it was influential and that it solidified the slasher genre (for better and for worse), but there's just too many things that make no sense and the characters are just 😒 It's difficult to adjust the rating to account for the time of release when #[movie:348:Alien (1979)] released only a year later and executed on everything 100x better.
surprisingly creepy!
A horror masterpiece perfectly refined by the proto slashers before it (Black Christmas & Bay of Blood). With a perfect manuscript, cinematography and direction it's a slasher distilled to its core. A perfect slasher. ______________________________________________________________________________________ Et sandt horror mesterværk. Alt i filmen går op i en højere enhed, og skaber slasheren som vi kender den efter, at Bay of Blood og Black Christmas har lagt fundamentet. Carpenters og Hills manuskript er perfekt og stramt skrevet og fortalt. FIlmen er smukt skudt af Dean Cundey, og han er med til at skabe det unikke look for filmen, som kommer til at kendetegne Carpenters film. Især skal hele steadicam one-shottet i anslaget fremhæves. Det er så fantastisk skudt og revealed til sidst er fabelagtigt. Soundtracket er endnu engang perfekt, synthtemaet er nok et af de mest genkendelige horrortemaer på niveau med de bedste.
