I really liked Daniel Kaluuya, although he was clearly too old for the role (Fred Hampton was 21 when he was murdered). By focusing so much on “the rat,” the film turns more into a thriller, with the Black Panthers serving mainly as a backdrop. Of course, there also has to be a love story, which ultimately takes time away from showing anything truly political. Elements like the Rainbow Coalition are just thrown in without much context. Still, it might be a good starting point to start reading Wikipedia articles.
