The things I’ll watch to get a fix of Isabelle Huppert… In all seriousness, this movie is worth watching for its attention to period detail alone, and problems often come with the characterization of Emma Bovary herself. Portraying her purely as selfish makes her extremely unlikeable and the story is an utter drag, making her too sympathetic betrays the source material. This movie found something of a disengaged and sometimes uninteresting middle ground.
