An epic that details the checkered rise and fall of French Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte and his relentless journey to power through the prism of his addictive, volatile relationship with his wife, Josephine.
it’s wild how a movie with this runtime has neither the time to flesh out anything nor the time to give depth to any of the characters in a word, shallow, i felt absolutely nothing during and after nothing that happened during the movie felt earned, and it gives the impression napoleon floated through life being handed everything on a silver platter after some modest victories scott tried to capture every major moment and achievement of napoleons life in this runtime and therefore there was no buildup to anything, no climax, no lows, nothing i hoped at least for some military tactics in the battle scenes, and even there was thoroughly whelmed as each battle was barely portrayed and phoenix played little to no role in any of it what is the point? his relationship with josephine was so random i’m not sure what their relationship was, and their depth was implied but never shown just all around a disappointment of a movie that i was genuinely looking forward to
