i’ll begin by saying that i quite liked the film, which will not be wholly reflected in my analysis all the elements clearly showcase a mastery making a brilliant movie, but i don’t feel the way it was written or the way it unfolded empowered women and, as always, made men unanimously look like foolish beasts in three acts: the birth, the journey, the return the first act, which i’ve cleverly named birth, is filmed wholly differently from the rest, using stunning camerawork with black and white and fish-eye lenses, keeping the viewer guessing at the world full of lanthimosian things engrossing, her creator wanted, like fathers do, to entrap her. i kept trying to guess what age this homunculus of a person is, especially as the discovery of masturbation lead to the unveiling of the narrative device of the film: sex in come an array of male caricatures, each more performative than the next, to sexually devour this baby woman, while requiring her abstinence from all other wo
