Amid the opulent teahouses of 1930s Hong Kong, a humble courtesan and the wayward scion of a wealthy family fall in love and embrace death by suicide pact. Fifty years later, her ghost returns to find him, drawing a young contemporary couple into her quest to rekindle a passion that may be as illusory as time itself.

In 1980s Hong Kong, a young couple comes across a strange and ethereal woman named Fleur, dressed like she came right out of the 1930s. The shocker? She did just that. Fleur was a young courtesan who made a suicide pact with her lover in the old days, but when her lover never made it to the spirit world, she returned as a ghost to search for him. There is something so haunting, melancholic, and beautiful about the premise of this movie. And the execution? It was just perfect. Gorgeously filmed and told, this is one of the best films I’ve seen about love, pain, and longing.
