It wasn't catastrophic, it had some fun sequences, decent acting, and regular Scream patterns. I'm not sure if it would have been much better without the production issues, to be honest, this is hovering around a consistent if slightly decaying quality since Scream 5. The main pain point was definitely the writing. The Ghostface sequences were mostly good. It's watchable just not a memorable entry into the franchise.
Look, I’m a Scream fan, I’ll be watching them as long as they’re making them. HOWEVER, I wish they took more time with writing this one after the production issues happened, or scrapped it altogether. It was clearly made in a rush. All the elements are pro forma there, except the heart. Each of these movies is a reflection of its time in its own way, so this one is, naturally, full of screens, AI, therapy talk, bad exposition and underdeveloped characters. But instead of at least getting playful with it, it actually tries to take itself seriously for the most part. I don’t regret watching it, but this is probably the worst Scream so far, for all the wrong reasons. Oh well, see you at Scream 8
