Sphere

Man, this movie is a big mess but I loved it. It's two hours long but feels rushed, the cast is STACKED but the acting is weird off and almost all the character are behaving like they have bipolar disorder. While this doesn't make any sense plot-wise it does (probably unintentionally) contribute to an equally eerie and ridiculous aura of the film. For example, so deep under the sea some of the crew members will start dying off and the main cast doesn't react at all. For some reason the film seems to be showing and drawing attention to this fact for no reason. While Queen Latifah's character is getting stung to death by jellyfish the director decides to show multiple shots of Dustin Hoffman's character, Norman, just sitting at a table watching her death with ZERO reaction. It's baffling. Especially since when they're alive most of the crew does have pretty good chemistry. I don't want to get into spoilers but one of the movie's twists is very predictable, but the explanation of how and why it happens doesn't in any way line up with the characters' behaviour before the reveal, I get the feeling that on a rewatch even more nonsensical scene will become clearly just scene to build suspense and check items off the horror film checklist. There is a lot of stupid shit to dismiss in this film, but there is also a lot to love, and I find myself appreciating the good part more than allowing the bad parts to take away from this pretty unique, weird and trippy experience. Also, I loved the last act, I've seen people online say that the film falls apart in the last act but for me it was the opposite and I really like the way that the story wraps up.
