The life of the revered 18th-century Armenian poet and musician Sayat-Nova. Portraying events in the life of the artist from childhood up to his death, the movie addresses in particular his relationships with women, including his muse. The production tells Sayat-Nova's dramatic story by using both his poems and largely still camerawork, creating a work hailed as revolutionary by Mikhail Vartanov.

One of those movies you should sit back and experience and marvel at the colours, composition, sets, costumes, and sound. Hard to really understand without context, that we lacked for most of it, but it speaks to something much deeper and more universal.
Without doubt one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever seen. If biopics must exist, may they be like this. Everything has been said about this movie before so the only thing I can add is that the eyeliner game is insane. But that was probably said before, too.
