In the questionable town of Deer Meadow, Washington, FBI Agent Desmond inexplicably disappears while hunting for the man who murdered a teen girl. The killer is never apprehended, and, after experiencing dark visions and supernatural encounters, Agent Dale Cooper chillingly predicts that the culprit will claim another life. Meanwhile, in the more cozy town of Twin Peaks, hedonistic beauty Laura Palmer hangs with lowlifes and seems destined for a grisly fate.

This grim and heartbreaking backstory serves as a contrast to the series’ eerie yet still somehow cozy atmosphere. It’s a perfect continuation of the series, but I wonder whether it works as a standalone movie. I just finished S1 and S2 again so I can’t tell. It’s not exploitative in any way. If anything, it’s possibly one of those movies that can deepen empathy. But still, it disturbed me and saddened me too much to say I enjoyed it and I’m not sure I’ll be able to rewatch it. Sheryl Lee is fantastic, David Lynch is fantastic. ❤️ for Laura Palmer and her real-life counterparts.
