The Chair Company

This is what #[movie:1239655:Friendship (2025)] should've been. Season 1 review: Pretty good and consistently funny. It's a blend of Tim Robinson humour, exciting conspiracy thriller stuff and Twin Peaks. I applaud it for its originality, and I enjoy the characters themselves ten times more than I did in Friendship. They're all kind of realistic and somewhat competent despite being set in this bizzarro reality where everyone acts like they're in a ITYSL sketch. I think the "idiot main character" angle can work in sketches, but it gets really old really fast in movie form (once again, Friendship). Thankfully everyone in The Chair Company is good at something. The show has some really creative and captivating shots every now and then, giving it this kind of surreal weight that works perfectly with the silly over the top humour. Perhaps DeYoung should stick to directing and leave the writing to Robinson and the gang, they seem to work great together in this arrangement. There seems to be a bit of a buzz and many theories about how the plot will unwrap, what the show is actually about and hidden meanings in many seemingly unimportant scenes. I'm curious if it's keen-eyed viewers hallucinating things that aren't really there or if the plot will turn out to be a bit more complex than on would assume on first viewing. I guess season two will answer that question. The season does end on a cliffhanger, despite the penultimate episode wrapping many of the loose ends, the final episode introduces a bunch more. I would mind this a lot more if the show was even a tiny bit more serious and if season two wasn't already confirmed.
