A psychologist from the 70s looks and speaks like a mental health influencer in 2025 with “empath” in their bio But that’s okay because ✨love✨ and 🙏🏻empathy are solution to everything, even an extreme, barely-researched condition in the 70s America. If you want to feel empathy towards someone so bad, I suggest you read up on the real-life inspiration behind this. I’m pretty sure this condition could have gotten the empathetic story it deserves on a better example. Without spoiling, I’ll just say that the level of audacity surpasses even the good old tearjerker of severe autism, portrayed as a cute quirk or the key to mathematical genius. Which severe psychological disorders are we going to be romanticising next? Unrelated to that, the plot twist becomes clear so soon that most of the season felt unnecessary and could have been reduced to a single episode. From many fresh faces Elijah Jones stands out and all the performances of the established actors were okay. But ultimately it felt like an adaptation of a young adult novel recommended by someone who will tell you to “just think positively” to cure depression.
