The exploits of FBI Special Agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully who investigate X-Files: marginalized, unsolved cases involving paranormal phenomena. Mulder believes in the existence of aliens and the paranormal while Scully, a skeptic, is assigned to make scientific analyses of Mulder's discoveries that debunk Mulder's work and thus return him to mainstream cases.

Finished: I want to believe (…👀) that every person has a TV show or two that makes them feel like it’s made specifically for them, and that’s X-files for me. But it’s also simply such a good show. Every episode is so interesting, be that conspiracy, “regular” crime or monster-of-the-week. There are many experimental episodes, too, in both style and writing (the writing is SO GOOD), and in many ways the show was well ahead of its time. It’s impossible not to notice its influence on so much TV and film that came afterwards. Any crime/supernatural/alien/paranormal/whatever concept you can think of, X-files did in the 90s. And then there’s the humanity and kindness of it all, without falling into stereotypical feel-good tropes. I feel like this is one of those shows that, if you watch it young enough, will make you a better person. Perhaps it has the same effect on adults. I’d hope so. It would be nice. And although I’m sure the show propelled some conspiracy theories, it also took some balls to make such an anti-government TV show during a period of heightened patriotism in the US. Not to mention the “Scully Effect”, a phenomenon inspiring more young women to pursue careers in sciences because of the show. Seasons 1-6 are perfection. Seasons 7-9 are great, too, and skilfully navigate some major production changes. Seasons 10-11 I don’t mind existing, but if I ever rewatch the show, I’ll stop at the end of Season 9, which was wrapped up so nicely, it felt like a real ending. And, of course, Mulder and Scully… I’ll stop now because I’m not sure Katalog could handle the amount of text I could write about this. — Started: Three episodes in and I’m obsessed, Scully and Mulder no-chemistry chemistry is off charts
Finished! I can't believe we blasted through ELEVEN seasons of X-Files. Amazing, amazing, amazing. Seasons 1-6 are incredible television. The atmosphere, the charisma, the mysteries. So fucking good. The overarching storyline is so fucking coherent somehow, and it pays off so much by season 6. 10/10 if it ended there. But it didn't. ||Seasons 7-9 have something really great about them too, Reyes and Dogget are amazing in their own ways, despite not being Mulder and Scully, of course.|| Season 10, the first of the two revivals, loses the plot. Season 11 ||butchers the ending so much I want to strangle Chris Carter. Dude, all you had to do was do it justice??? HOW could you write that? After your incredible run in the 90s??? You just fully ghost Doggett?? Patrick had scheduling conflicts, write something about him into the show, instead you just don't mention him at all. Reyes is even worse, she completely sells out her character and integrity to become a lapdog for The Smoking Man and then gets shot, the end?? What are you smoking my guy?? I refuse to accept season 11 as canon. I keep adding edits to this. I'm flabbergasted. The ending credits roll so abruptly, they wrap everything up so clumsily, after DECADES of setup. DECADES. Let that sink in. DECADES. Found some more info on Reddit: "My Struggle 4" wasn't intended to be the final episode. Carter thought he could get at least another season greenlit, but when Gillian left the show he found himself having to tweak "My Struggle 4" into a franchise finale. They never mention John Doggett once in series 10 or 11.. The actor was approached but was unavailable. His part was re-written and given to Spender. it just seemed weird that towards the end of series 9 they decided to bring Mulder back in for the final two episodes as a full on character rather than bits here and there Duchovny was not under contract for season 9. He came back for the final two-parter as a favor to Carter and the show, under the understanding that this would lead to two (they hoped) big-budget mythology movies that would wrap the franchise up. These mythology movies were delayed, and then ditched, when the studio mandated a Monster of the Week movie instead."|| Just watch seasons 1-9 and call it a day. Pretend the revivals didn't happen. Amazing TV, I'll definitely rewatch it one day. Duchovny and Anderson are icons. ----- while watching: I used to watch clips of this show on the TV through an opened crack in the door when I was 6 years old and supposed to be asleep. It mildly traumatised me. Starting to watch it as an adult, I'm thinking, wow, this is so comfy.
